2002 model Dometic BriskAir AC Repair on Fifth Wheel

CAUTION
ENSURE ALL POWER IS REMOVED FROM THE UNIT
THE AC UNIT OPERATES OFF 120 VOLT SHORE POWER
CAPACITORS CAN HOLD A HIGH VOLTAGE CHARGE WHEN POWER IS SECURED
FOR YOUR SAFETY, YOU MUST DISCHARGE ALL CAPACITORS BEFORE HANDLING
THIS INCLUDES NEW ONES YOU JUST PURCHASED

The fan capacitor located in the roof unit has died.

The interior of the roof unit, the capacitor box is located to the right at the forward end of the unit,

The wiring connections of the FAN capacitor that needs replacement. The contacts are marked: Fan- 1 Black Wire, Herm-2 Red Wires, Common-4 White Wires.

This is the business end of the Hard Start Capacitor Kit which I also replaced on general principles as the red cable insulation was charred somewhat at the connector.

Identification of Dometic Hard Start Kit

The new Hard Start Kit, it came as a unit

This is not a Dometic part, they want about $60 for theirs. The original was labeled 35/5uf, 370 volts, protected 10,000 and I upgraded to a 35/5 uf, 440 volt capacitor, protected 10,000 and with all other parameters matching or exceeded for about $12

A main concern was to ensure that the capacitor I ordered fit in the capacitor box and leave room to connect the wiring

Info on the replacement capacitor that I ordered

Installation, other than climbing on and off the roof of the fifth wheel was relatively easy

I started the ac unit before I sealed up the capacitor box and the fan started like it should

I tried to see if it was cool air, but then I thought I might need to cover buttoned up for proper airflow

It is working, but the outside temperature is in the low-mid 90s
